The canine influenza virus, H3N2, is now spreading through Florida. It is a highly contagious virus transmitted by direct contact with infected dogs and by indirect contact with a contaminated environment and people. The virus specifically targets the respiratory tract. Clinical signs included frequent coughing, sneezing, and nasal discharge. Symptoms can progress to life-threatening pneumonia and secondary bacterial infections also commonly arise in infected dogs.
Dogs that participate in group activities (such as dog parks, obedience classes, dog shows) and dogs that are groomed or boarded, are at highest risk for exposure
The Doctors at Anclote Animal HIGHLY recommend getting your pet vaccinated against this virus. Our office has the vaccination in stock, contact us to schedule an appointment for vaccination or if you would like more information on the virus.
