Preventative Care

Set up a visit, let your pet receive a quick but thorough exam from a trained professional, and establish a health baseline while also getting the chance to spot developing areas of focus before they become major concerns. It’s quick, painless, and can prevent the need for major treatment down the road.

Examinations

Prioritize your pet's health and happiness by taking simple preventative steps to prevent illness and injury. At Anclote Animal Hospital, we highly recommend regular examinations for pets of all species, even when they’re seemingly healthy. In general, we recommend a pet have one or two physical examinations a year. If your pet is a puppy, kitten, senior pet, or in compromised health, we may recommend more frequent visits to best manage and optimize their health.

Dogs and cats in particular tend to have an evolutionary tendency to hide pain or discomfort. This means that your pet may be experiencing an illness or injury and show no obvious outward signs of being in pain or discomfort. This is one of the reasons why a routine examination can be very important.

During your pet’s examination, your vet will provide a full physical exam based on their unique species, stage of life, breed, and other factors. We’ll ask questions about your pet’s life, exercise, diet, and more. These questions aren’t designed to make you feel guilty or  uncomfortable, just to get a complete picture of your pet’s lifestyle and how it might be improved for maximum health.

Your pet’s exam is also a great opportunity for you to ask the veterinarian any questions you might have about keeping your pet happy and healthy.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are an absolute necessity for almost all pets—especially for your dogs and cats. That’s because dogs and cats are exposed to a wide range of dangerous pathogens and parasites in their day-to-day environments that can not only cause them severe discomfort and pain, but could result in death. Meanwhile, infected and unvaccinated pets may be spreading their diseases to other pets unknowingly. It’s your responsibility to your pet and to other pet owners to keep your pet vaccinated properly.

Fortunately, our team at Anclote Animal Hospital makes it easy to keep your pet properly vaccinated. We’ll keep you updated on your pet’s vaccination schedule and provide affordable vaccinations for the full range of pathogens based on your pet’s species, age, and breed. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach to vaccination, we take the time to first learn about your pet and advise the smartest vaccination schedule based on their unique circumstances. We are proactive in avoiding over-vaccination. Your pet will receive only the vaccinations they need to be safe from preventable, dangerous, conditions.

Parasite Control

Even with vaccinations and preventative measures, pets will sometimes contract parasites. These can cause issues ranging from bowel discomfort to severe and even life-threatening symptoms. At Anclote Animal Hospital, we work to not only prevent parasites but also treat them when they do occur in pets.

We recommend all pets be on some method of continuous, parasite prevention. In most cases, this will look like a monthly preventative medication in the form of a pill, treat, or topical solution.

External parasites, like fleas and ticks, can be found early during daily grooming. Internal parasites may be visible in fecal matter, but are more likely exhibited in symptoms such as weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, and scooting.

If you suspect your pet has a parasite of some kind, contact us right away; even if you’re not sure! We’ll gather information from you about your pet’s symptoms, where they’ve spent time recently, and other relevant information. Next, we’ll examine your pet and might recommend additional diagnosis measures in order to determine the source of your pet’s symptoms.

If we determine your pet has a parasite infection, we'll initiate a prompt treatment plan that may include medication or other treatments to help remove parasites and get your best friend back into tip-top condition.

Microchipping

Microchipping is the process of inserting a tiny data chip just beneath the skin of your cat or dog. These microchips can then be scanned by veterinarians, shelters, and other professionals in the event that your pet is lost and doesn’t have identifying information on its collar.

When pets run away or are lost, it’s extremely common for their collars or tags to fall off or be removed. By microchipping your pet, you ensure that they can be identified no matter what.

The process of microchipping is 100% safe and minimally invasive. The chip is inserted just beneath your pet’s skin in an almost instant and nearly painless injection, and features information about the pet and your contact info.

Once your pet is microchipped, the registration process is quick and easy. These microchips can even be updated when you change your address or phone number, so please be sure to do this if your contact information changes. Otherwise, the individuals who find your lost pet will not be able to reach you!

Microchipping can be completed quickly at any regular appointment, so be sure to ask about during your next visit.

Nutrition & Weight Management

More pets than ever suffer from excessive weight, which can cause severe and even life-threatening health issues. If your pet is overweight, don’t worry about feeling responsible or guilty, just get your pet the help they need.

Our expert veterinarians at Anclote Animal Hospital are deeply experienced with helping overweight (or underfed) pets get back on the right track. We’ll prescribe a healthy, nutrient-rich diet plan and give you helpful tips to increase your pet’s activity level in a safe and manageable way.

Obese pets live shorter lives, and their qualify of life is dramatically reduced. Meanwhile, their instincts often tell them to eat food whenever it’s available; they don’t know that eating too much or exercising too little can quite literally kill them. It’s our responsibility to learn the best ways to manage their weight and nutrition so our pets can live happy, healthy, and long lives by our sides.

At Anclote Animal Hospital, we’ll help you and your pet make healthy choices for their brightest future.
